All Thread Rod

All Thread Rod, also referred to as threaded rod or fully threaded stud, is a fastener with continuous threads along its entire length, manufactured in accordance with ASME B1.1 Unified Inch Screw Threads and various ASTM material specifications (such as A307, A193, and F1554). It is engineered for use in structural, mechanical, and industrial applications requiring reliable tensile and shear performance. All Thread Rods are commonly employed for load-bearing connections, anchoring, pipe and conduit support systems, and machinery assembly. They are typically paired with nuts, washers, or couplers, and can be cut or machined to precise lengths to accommodate custom installation requirements while maintaining compliance with standardized mechanical and dimensional tolerances.

Applications

  • Structural Anchoring: Bolting steel frameworks, concrete anchors, and machinery bases. Provides reliable load-bearing connections per ASTM F1554 and A307 standards.
  • Mechanical Fastening: Joining components in assembly lines, equipment racks, and industrial machinery. Ensures standardized thread engagement and torque compliance according to ASME B1.1.
  • Pipe and Conduit Supports: Used with clevis hangers, threaded couplers, and pipe clamps for industrial piping infrastructure, maintaining tension and load compliance per ASTM A193 and F1554.
  • Custom Fabrication: Specialized fasteners and assemblies for unique structural or mechanical applications where standard bolts are impractical. Can be cut to precise lengths while maintaining compliance with ASME and ASTM tolerances.

Material Grades & Mechanical Properties

  • ASTM A307 (Carbon Steel): General-purpose threaded rod with moderate tensile strength. Suitable for structural anchoring and light mechanical fastening applications.
  • ASTM A193 B7 (Alloy Steel): Quenched and tempered alloy steel. High tensile strength and heat resistance. Suitable for high-load, elevated temperature, or critical industrial connections.
  • ASTM A193 B8 / B8M (Stainless Steel): Corrosion-resistant stainless steel. Ideal for chemical exposure, outdoor environments, and applications requiring enhanced durability.
  • ASTM F1554 (Structural Steel): Designed for structural, load-bearing applications. High-strength steel ensuring compliance with safety-critical engineering designs and ASME/ASTM dimensional standards.
  • Finishes: Plain, zinc-plated, hot-dip galvanized per ASTM A123/A153, or PTFE/polymer coatings for corrosion and chemical resistance.

Tensile Strength & Load Considerations

  • Tensile Strength: Determined by the material grade and diameter. Conforms to ASTM F1554, ASTM A193, and ASME B18.31 standards. Ensures threaded rods can withstand calculated axial loads without yielding or failure.
  • Proof Load: Maximum load the rod can handle without permanent deformation. Critical for structural applications and industrial fastenings.
  • Working Load: Recommended load under normal operating conditions, typically 50-60% of the tensile strength. Allows for safety margins in mechanical and structural designs.
  • Stress Area: The cross-sectional area used in calculating axial load capacity. Determined per ASME B1.1 for unified threads and provides accurate load estimations for design engineering.

Thread Manufacturing

  • Cold Formed / Rolled Threads: Threads are formed by cold rolling, increasing fatigue resistance and surface hardness. Conforms to ASME B1.1 unified thread specifications.
  • Cut / Machined Threads: Threads are cut using taps or dies for custom lengths or special applications. Suitable for low- to moderate-volume production while maintaining thread geometry per ASTM/ASME standards.
  • Thread Tolerances: Ensures proper engagement with nuts and couplers. Tolerances follow ASME B1.1 Class 2A/2B or 3A/3B for precision applications.
  • Thread Type: Available in coarse (UNC), fine (UNF), and special pitch threads such as 8UN for structural applications. Selection is based on load requirements, vibration resistance, and assembly specifications.
